Cortez

Cortez is a small, historic fishing village on the water between the mainland and Anna Maria Island, connected to Bradenton Beach by the Cortez Bridge. Its historic district, centered on net houses, seafood packing houses, and modest frame homes, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains one of the few working waterfront fishing communities left on Florida's Gulf Coast.

Housing in Cortez is limited and tightly held. Original cottages sit alongside newer homes built to modern flood standards, and much of the appeal is direct or near-direct water access, along with the working harbor itself. Restaurants like Star Fish Company and Tide Tables keep the village's fishing-boat character visible rather than tucked away.
