Tarpon Springs sits at the northern edge of Pinellas County on the Anclote River, the county's oldest incorporated city, chartered in 1887. Its identity took shape in the early 1900s, when Greek sponge divers recruited from the Dodecanese islands built one of Florida's leading maritime industries here, and the city still carries the highest concentration of Greek heritage of any city in the country.
